HR SERIAL NUMBER DATES FULL
What I cited was the H&R factory release on the addition of the 38 cal S&W to the line up.Bill Goforth assembled the factory data to compile his book.I have additional publication by the late Joseph Vorisek on the H&R revolvers.I'll check it later today and see if there is further data. That seems that H&R made a big deal about the new chambering. If you want the most up to date and definitive info.Go to and purchase their info.have the gun at hand and some tools to take it down.Sorry if I gave you what you feel is the wrong is just what I have at hand.Zeke PS.as for markings dealing with model.number or name.H&R was not all that careful with that.there are.for most guns.a half dozen versions.all with changes.and the pictures you post have glare to them and some markings cannot be clearly seen. You should either list them as stamped and if a picture is used.backfill them with chalk or print correcting fluid.markings Exact markings as to ID the company and the format they take is a must.Bill's book is full of pictures on just that. This issue seems to be a basic one in the 1930-1945 era.as company reformed to avoid closure and to dodge debt.made changes to their titled trademarkings.all at very specific dates.Hope this helps some.įrom GoForth's H&R book,That form on top barrel markings were used on the Type Nineteen 1916-1942 My current guess is that it is an early model made between 19 but I'd love to find keys that might pin down a closer range of dates. I have found later versions of the gun called the Model 25 and even 925. The cylinder is the early lift and turn to remove system. The sights (loosely called sights) are fixed and non-adjustable. The blueing is fantastic, deep and luscious.
HR SERIAL NUMBER DATES CODE
The serial number is really, really low (#234) and as I said, there is no date code associated with the serial number. I have a 1940 brochure where the gun is shown as the "New Defender" but it shows the name on the barrel. The serial number is on the front grip strap, under the grip and on the cylinder face.

There is no model number, model name, date letter in serial number or other identifying marks. It seems to be on a version of the heavy Sportsman frame with the dual trigger system, 4" barrel, 5 round cylinder, nylon grips, no finger rest trigger guard and the only markings on the barrel are Manufacturer name and address & Patents on the top strap and cartridge designation on the left side. I've been trying to narrow down a date for a Harrington & Richardson Top Break 38S&W.
